The two main UPS topologies are Double-Conversion True Online and Standby / Eco. Many quality-based considerations are involved when choosing the the optimal UPS for the job, like how they are coping with voltage disturbances.

The maximum power that the device can produce.

The minumum voltage needed by the device during operation.

The  maximum input voltage supported by the device.

The frequency (Hz) which is required to power the product.

The minumum voltage produced by the device during operation.

The maximum output voltage produced by the device.

A surge protector is an appliance designed to protect electrical devices from voltage spikes. A surge protector attempts to limit the voltage supplied to an electric device by either blocking or by shorting to ground any unwanted voltages above a safe threshold. The surge energy rating is a measure of how much energy a surge protector can theoretically absorb in a single event, without failure.

The response time is the time difference between the moment that a source (for example a video card) sends a signal and that equipment (for example a monitor) receives or display the signal. (Used abbreviations: R/F = Rise and Fall.)

The amplitude level of the undesired background noise, usually measured in decibels (db).

Features that protect the device against power problems e.g. overload.

Alarms that make a sound when they are activated (set off).

The number of sockets in the device where AC electrical power can be connected.

Number of USB 2.0 ports (connecting interfaces) in the device. USB 2.0 was released in April 2000 (now called "Hi-Speed"), adding higher maximum signaling rate of 480 Mbit/s (effective throughput up to 35 MB/s or 280 Mbit/s), USB 2.0 ports are usually black.

Number of Ethernet LAN (RJ-45) ports (connecting interfaces) in the device.  Ethernet LAN (RJ-45) ports allow a computer to connect to the ethernet.

The type of battery in the device, e.g. nickel–cadmium (NiCd).

The amount of electric charge a battery can deliver at the rated voltage. The more electrode material contained in the cell the greater its capacity. A small cell has less capacity than a larger cell with the same chemistry, although they develop the same open-circuit voltage. Capacity is measured in units such as amp-hour (A·h).

The number of batteries that can be used with the product.

The amount of time that a backup energy source (e.g. UPS - Uninterruptible Power Source) can power the device for, when the backup energy source is half-loaded (50% of capacity).

Approximate time required to recharge the battery from completely empty to completely full

The colour e.g. red, blue, green, black, white.

The minimum and maximum temperatures at which the product can be safely operated.

The measurement or extent of something from side to side.

The distance from the front to the back of something.

The measurement of the product from head to foot or from base to top.

Weight of the product without packaging (net weight). If possible, the net weight is given including standard accessories and supplies. Please note that sometimes the manufacturer leaves out the weight of accessories and/or supplies.
