With the ISDN protocoll X.31 e.g. electronics cash readers can be operated at the internal S0 port. The data are preferably exchanged over the d-channel with the receiving station (X.25). A great advantage is that the b-channels for phone calls are not binded. Mostly this service must be activated by the network carrier in advance.
