The Dual-Mode Component Cooler is designed to boost existing (but insufficient) ventilation for audio and video components. While cooling the hot component below it, it provides a shelf onto which a heat-sensitive item, such as a DVD player, can be placed. It's an "active heat shield".
Easily reconfigured, it can be placed beneath a component with bottom panel vent openings.
In either configuration, the fans operate continuously at an idle speed, switching to a higher, but very quiet, speed, controlled by a thermally-activated switch.
